management of a broad range of health conditions affecting all
people of all ages.
Naturopathic physicians (N.D.s) are the highest trained practitioners
in the broadest scope of naturopathic medical modalities. In addition
to the basic medical sciences and conventional diagnostics, naturopathic
education includes therapeutic nutrition, botanical medicine,
homeopathy, natural childbirth, classical Chinese medicine, hydrotherapy,
naturopathic manipulative therapy, pharmacology and minor surgery.
Dr. Tori Hudson
Dr. Tori Hudson graduated from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in 1984 where she has since served in many capacities: Professor, Medical Director, Associate Academic Dean, and Academic Dean. In 1990, she was awarded the American Association of Naturopathic Physician's President's Award, in 1999, Naturopathic Physician of the Year, in 2003 the NCNM Pioneer award and in 2009, the Natural Products Association Pioneer Award.
Dr. Hudson is a national lecturer, contributor to many magazines and books, author, educator and researcher. She has over 27 years of experience and expertise in women's health utilizing nutrition, nutraceuticals, herbs, bio-identical hormones and other therapies to treat all gynecological and primary care conditions for women. She is the medical director of A Woman’s Time clinic in Portland, Oregon. She is author of the book, Women's Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine in it’s second edition, 2008.
Dr. Margaret Beeson
The founder and owner of Yellowstone Naturopathic Clinic, Dr. Beeson is a national leader in efforts to
advance the quality of naturopathic care and integrate conventional and alternative medicine for patient
benefit. She brings 35 years of medical experience to her practice, including a 20-year career as a nurse,
certified midwife, physician assistant, and nutritional consultant. Before completing her naturopathic training
at Bastyr University, she served in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps, and worked as a hospital and private
practice nurse involved in surgery, recovery, acute and chronic care, ICU, psychiatry, allergies, nutrition,
and environmental medicine. While building her naturopathic practice, Dr. Beeson has worked tirelessly to
raise standards of naturopathic practice, provide advanced clinical training for NDs, and collaborate with the
conventional medical community. Dr Beeson serves as Chair of the Alternative Health Care Board for the
state of Montana.
Dr. Eileen Stretch
Dr. Stretch obtained her doctoral degree in Naturopathic Medicine from the National College of Natural
Medicine, Portland, Oregon (1993) and completed her residency at Bastyr University, Seattle, Washington.
She along with Dr. Cindy Phillips established the Institute of Complementary Medicine in 1994. Her primary
areas of focus are women’s health, mental health and family medicine specializing in botanical, homeopathy
and nutritional medicine. She is a member of the Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians and is
a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians serving as Treasurer on the board (1997-
2001, 2004-2007). Additionally she has testified before the White House Commission on Complementary
and Alternative Medicine Policy. Dr. Stretch is also a widely desired public speaker in the continuing medical
education for both naturopathic doctors as well as other medical professionals.
Dr. Cindy Phillips
Having graduated from Bastyr University as well as serving a two year residency at the Natural Health
Center of Bastyr University Dr. Phillips went into partnership with Dr. Eileen Stretch in 1994 to open the
Institute of Complementary Medicine. Seattle Magazine has listed her as one of the Best Naturopathic
Physicians in Seattle for two years. Dr. Phillips provides family care for all acute and chronic illnesses
as well as providing preventative medicine to optimize future health. She has served as President of the
Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians in 2002 in addition to serving as Speaker of the House
for the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians.
Dr. Deborah A. Wiancek
Dr. Deborah A. Wiancek graduated from Bastyr University, School of Naturopathic Medicine. She has
a family practice in Edwards, Colorado at the Riverwalk Natural Health Clinic specializing in allergies,
dermatology, gynecology and pediatric health care. She is the only board-certified naturopathic physician
in the Vail Valley. She authored “The Natural Healing Companion: Using Alternative Medicines; What to
buy, How to Take and When to Combine for Best Results” published by Rodale Press. Dr. Wiancek is also
featured in “The Idiot’s Guide to Natural Remedies”. Her interviews are broadcast on over 2,000 radio
stations throughout the United States on various health topics such as “Women’s Health Issues”. Women’s
World Natural Health, Prevention Magazine, Energy Times, United Hemispheres, Cleansing Magazine and
Ski Magazine have featured Dr. Wiancek’s articles. She has studied in the Amazon rainforest in Puerto
Maldanado and with the Dayak tribe in Borneo, Indonesia. Dr. Wiancek has also done comparative studies
of hospital practices in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam versus those in Seoul, Korea.
Dr. Michael Traub
Dr. Michael Traub, ND, DHANP, CCH, FABNO has been in clinical practice for 29 years and was the first
naturopathic physician in contemporary times to be appointed to a hospital staff – North Hawaii Community
Hospital (NHCH). He served as chairman of the Integrated Healing Committee from the opening of the
hospital in 1996 until 2001. He was also the Residency Program Direction from 1998 to 2002. Dr Traub
served as the President for the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) in 2001-2003.
He was honored by the AANP as “Physician of the Year” in 2006. Dr. Traub has held numerous leadership
positions from Chairman of the Hawaii Board of Naturopathic Examiners to President of the Homeopathic
Academy of Naturopathic Physicians. He is author of the book “Essentials of Dermatological Diagnosis and
Integrative Therapeutics”. Currently he is an Adjunct Clinical Faculty Member at Bastyr University, National
College of Natural Medicine, Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, University of Bridgeport and the
University of Minnesota.
Dr. Martin Milner
Dr. Milner received his N.D. in 1983 from NCNM. He has remained at his alma mater for the past 23
years as Professor of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Medicine. Dr. Milner is also the CEO and medical
director of the Center for Holistic Medicine (1983-1991) and Center for Natural Medicine (CNM), Inc. (1991-
present). Established in 1991, CNM is the first and one of the largest ongoing, integrated healthcare
facilities in the Northwest. The Heart and Lung Wellness program is the newest addition in Dr. Milner's
professional life, linking his identities as professor and doctor. This exciting program is in its ninth year
providing a clinical training ground for 14-24 fourth year naturopathic medical student interns and resident
doctors, supervised by Dr. Milner. This experience engages medical students and patients in collaborative,
complimentary and alternative health care of cardiovascular, pulmonary disease and primary care
conditions. In this capacity CNM functions as a teaching clinic of NCNM. Dr. Milner is well published
with texts, medical journal articles and studies in endocrinology, cardiology, pulmonology, oncology
and environmental medicine. He has also authored “Menopause Revolution: Smashing the HRT Myth-
Alternatives to Manufactured Drug Therapy”, Agora Health Books.
Dr. Laurie Steelsmith
Dr. Laurie Steelsmith is a licensed naturopathic physician and acupuncturist, and author of the Hawaii
best-selling book Natural Choices for Women’s Health (published by Three Rivers/Random House).
Widely respected for her views on natural medicine, she has appeared on CNN’s “HealthWatch,” Fox
and NBC news affiliates, and has been interviewed on more than 50 national radio programs. She is
frequently quoted in popular magazines including Woman’s World, Self, Woman's Day, Natural Health,
Women's Health, Whole Life Times, Body + Soul, Let’s Live, Better Nutrition, Vegetarian Times, Alternative
Medicine, WebMD, Health, First for Women, OnFitness, and Delicious Living. For the past nine years Dr.
Steelsmith has written a monthly column for The Honolulu Advertiser, and she is a regular contributor to
Australia’s Nature & Health magazine. She has had a busy private practice since 1993, and the Honolulu
Weekly has credited her with being the best alternative practitioner for women’s health care in Honolulu.
Dr. Carl Hangee-Bauer
Dr. Carl Hangee-Bauer, ND, LAc, is a 1984 Bastyr University graduate and a founder of the California
Naturopathic Doctors Association. He played an active role in successfully gaining licensure for NDs in
California changing the way medicine is practiced in the state. He is President of the American Association
of Naturopathic Physicians (2010-2011) as well as being the former Chairperson for the State of California
Bureau of Naturopathic Medicine Advisory Council. Dr. Hangee-Bauer practices in San Francisco and is the
owner of San Francisco Natural Medicine, the city's largest naturopathic medical clinic. Dr. Hangee-Bauer is
also a contributor to the “Textbook of Natural Medicine” and is a member of the Editorial Review Board for
both the “Alternative Medicine Review” and “The Journal of Naturopathic Medicine”.
Dr. Katherine Oldfield
Dr. Oldfield is a Washington native and medical director of West Seattle Naturopathic Clinic. She completed
her undergraduate degree at University of Washington and attended medical school at Bastyr University,
graduating in 2000. After graduation from Bastyr, Dr. Oldfield was a resident and then an associate at
Peninsula Naturopathic Clinic in Gig Harbor, WA, her hometown. Since 2002, she has owned West
Seattle Natural Medicine Clinic with her husband Greg. She is a member of the American Association of
Naturopathic Physicians and Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians She served on the board
of the WANP for two years.
Dr. Kasra Pournadeali
Dr. Kasra Pournadeali is a graduate of Bastyr University'. He received his undergraduate degree in Radiologic Technology (BSRT) from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Dr. Pournadeali is founder & director, of the Northwest Center for Optimal Health, and an academic faculty member at Bastyr University. He has served as President of the Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and is an appointed board member for the Washington State Medical Association (WSMA)-accredited Foundation for Care Management.
Dr. Pournadeali serves on the Review Staff for the Journal of Naturopathic Medicine, and is a Member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians. In addition to practicing at NCOH, Dr. Pournadeali educates the community through his weekly talk radio show: Healthy Living and on his Friday Morning television spot on the Northwest Cable News Network- serving Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Utah, and parts of California.
Dr. Tamara Cullen
Tamara Cullen, ND is a 1999 graduate of Bastyr University and currently practicing primary care medicine in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Cullen has always had a special love for working in pediatrics. She believes that teaching our children the philosophy and principles of naturopathic medicine will affect the greatest healthcare change in this world. It is because of this belief that she enjoys educating other providers on practicing pediatric medicine, and has done so both nationally and internationally. She currently serves as adjunct faculty at the Bastyr Center for Natural Health and as the Advanced Pediatrics professor at Bastyr University. She is also a founding Board member of the newly formed PedANP, and co-author of “The Baby Cuisine Cookbook”. In addition, she has volunteered her time with NPLEX, the national licensing exam committee for naturopathic physicians. She spends the majority of her time at her private practice in Seattle and in addition, loves to swim, run, travel and spend time with her family.
