A Woman's Time

Integrative Residency Program

Clinic Description and History

A Woman's Time was established in 1995 and has promoted and been providing integrated medicine, especially in the area of women's health to the greater Portland, Oregon area. Dr. Hudson initiated the first integrative medicine residency program in 1998 along with an eager recent NCNM graduate looking for a residency opportunity. Dr. Hudson herself was a first year resident in 1984-85, chief resident in 1985-86, and subsequently an NCNM clinical and academic faculty member, administrator, and now long-term faculty for 23 years. These experiences have been fundamental in her recognition of the importance of residencies and her commitment to expanded residencies for her younger colleagues.

A Woman's Time is an integrative clinic offering primary care to women and specializing in women's health issues of all ages. The clinic is currently home to 6 N.D.s, including 2 N.D./L.Ac., a counselor and a massage therapist.

Dr. Hudson's relationship with the conventional medical community, leadership and expertise in women's health, research, teaching, public speaking and writings, create an ideal setting for a new graduate to develop and hone their skills in working with women, while also creating a diverse professional life.

CNME Approved Remote Residency Site

A Woman's Time is accepted as an official, accredited residency site of both National College of Naturopathic Medicine and Bastyr University. A Woman's Time will typically have two NERC residents each year, ranging from 1st year to 2nd year to 3rd year residents. We have a very busy clinic in adolescent and women's internal medicine and gynecology. This setting is ideal for graduating physicians to have the opportunity to work with a variety of patients, in a supervised capacity. Residents will have a schedule that includes private patients, clinical rotations, research, public speaking and writing. Residents will be encouraged and supported in the development of their own areas of interest and evolution of expertise.

Local Community Sites for Resident Observation and Practice

Over these 15 years, we have developed a wealth of clinical rotations with conventional medical specialists and N.Ds. Our rotations are with gynecologists, internists, cardiologists, gastroenterologists, rheumatologists, pulmonologists, endocrinologists, oncologists, gynecological oncologists, urolological oncologists, surgeons, family practice, dermatologists and naturopathic physicians. Rotations can also include hospital rounds, and working with a hospitalist.

Integrative Pharmacy Partnership

A rotation has at times included work at a local compounding pharmacy, Lloyd Center pharmacy providing information and education to their customers, and learning about compounding. Opportunities for Residents to Develop Writing, Speaking and Marketing Skills
All practitioners, including residents take part in our lectures series at Whole Foods, New Seasons, and Wild Oats markets. Residents are at times asked to place articles in Townsend Letter for Doctors, Taste for Life, and online newsletters. Residents also participate in numerous health fairs and health events at our clinic booth, including Race for the Cure, Portland State University,
Portland Community College and others.

Service to Underserved Communities

Our residents are working at Outside In, a clinic for street youth, and numerous
satellite clinics through NCNM's community clinics program.

Program Structure

The residency program is structured as follows:
• Direct patient care in a women's health centered naturopathic family practice

• Weekly conferencing and mentoring with Dr. Tori Hudson
• Clinical grand rounds
• Clinical rotations with selected specialty practitioners
• Public lectures, health publications, clinic and pharmacy newsletters
• Assisting Dr. Hudson in patient care
• Clinical research, library research and special projects

Program Goals and Development

In conjunction with NCNM and Bastyr's supervision and tutelage, we will continue to evaluate and
refine our residency program. Our goal is to continue to provide the highest quality care to our
patients and excellent postgraduate training for naturopathic graduates. We also seek to further
expand into greater integration in the larger medical community and expose the residents to the
benefits of this to our patients.
